ANJOU SAUMUR

Around Angers and Saumur, in the vineyard, there are 19 appellations and 8 denominations to discover.

1000 winegrowers, 2 cooperative cellars and 60 wine merchants produce the equivalent of 119 million bottles each year.

The 19,300 ha of the vineyards of Anjou Saumur are under a temperate ocean climate in Anjou and mesoclimatic in the valleys, with a continental influence in the Saumur.

Soils and subsoil are composed mainly of slate schist, sandstone and carboniferous shales and volcanic rocks, all from the Armorican Massif. Between the vineyards of Anjou and Saumur, there is the transition between the old basement to the west and the sedimentary basin to the east.

The majority varieties are Cabernet Franc (for reds) and Chenin (for whites).

This group, which shapes the terroir of Anjou Saumur, gives freshness, fruity and sometimes roundness to the white wines and fruit, structure and greediness to the red wines.
