CAVES GRATIEN & MEYER

With its majestic position overlooking the Loire,
harmoniously perched on the hillside, the site of
Gratien & Meyer seems poised between heaven and
earth. The Art Deco architecture of the building is as
stunning as the unique view over the area. The visit
gives access to vast tunnels dug into the tuffeau during
the Middle Ages, where 5 million bottles are ageing.
A scenographic journey illustrates a century of work
founded in tradition and expertise. The visit details the
winemaking process of sparkling and still wines from
the harvest to the tasting.

CAVES BOUVET-LADUBAY

Etienne Bouvet created the house of Bouvet Ladubay
in 1851, by associating his brand with the name of his
wife. At the end of the 19th century its success was
extraordinary, so much so that it became the largest
producer of sparkling wines in the world. Through
the 8 km of cellars, visitors are shown all the stages
of winemaking in an exceptional setting. The Bouvet
Ladubay house also boasts steel and glass architecture,
a small theatre and a ‘sunken cathedral’, carved into the
rock. The carriage room makes a fine degustation area.
Note: Contemporary Art Centre, seminar and receptions
rooms available.

CAVES ACKERMAN

In 1811 the pioneer of Loire sparkling wines, Jean
Ackerman founded this illustrious house, in the heart
of 7 km of cellars dug into the tuffeau. He introduced
the traditional methods of elaboration for Brut and
Crémant de Loire to the region. Through an original
scenography the tour provides an extraordinary
‘Journey to the centre of the bubble.’ The route is
punctuated by events, art exhibitions and games for
the whole family. Wines tasting of the emblematic
wines of the cellars. The cellars are fully accessible.

DOMAINE DE LA GONORDERIE

Located in the heart of the Loire Valley close to Brissac Quincé, this 70 acres vineyard is run by Sheila and François Plumejeau. The area is synonymous with the Anjou Village Brissac appellation and its topography and geology makes it ideal to produce a wide range of wines:
• loamy sand, ideal for producing a red wine with silky tannins and fruity rosé wines
• Clay and limestone which give a good water supply to the vine and ensure a good maturity of grapes to produce the Anjou Village
• Clay and gravelly soils that suit the production of the white wines and rosés.
• A layer of shallow soil over rock, suitable for the early Chenin Blanc grape that is used in the production of sweet wines like the Coteaux de l' Aubance
